Matty Webb of Bedlingtonshire Golf Club has won this year’s Northumberland County Championship defeating Les Dawson of Newbiggin over the 36 hole final.
Horrific weather conditions in the North East during the course of the week meant that the final had to be played over two days with 18 holes on Saturday and the final 18 Holes on Sunday morning. Matty was 5 up after the initial 18 holes but, as expected, Les came back strongly over his home course, however in the end he was unable to regain the ground lost on Saturday and the title went to Matty winning 5 & 4.
Bedlingtonshire are having a successful time at the moment leading the Hadrian League and Matty is a regular member of the side and has been since 2005. Personally he is now fulfilling the potential he showed as a youngster winning his County Cap last year and winning the Northumberland County Strokeplay Championship as well as being successful in many other competitions.
Well done, Matty, and long may your star continue to rise.
