Challenge Cup Report - 2024

Westerhope host and win the Challenge Cup

With the 2024 Summer still failing to appear, the Challenge Cup started in the rain and continued wet for most of the round. Fortunately, the predicted lightning didn't appear and everyone was able to complete their rounds (except for one poor, bedraggled soul who gave up after 9 holes).

Twelve clubs managed to enter their two player teams. Three clubs were unable to do so due to a variety of reasons. And, of course, we had the usual few substitutions on the day.

The Results

Given the conditions there were some excellent scores from all of the clubs.
Both the gross and the nett were closely fought with only a single shot making the difference for both.
Westerhope's own Cameron Thoburn won the gross with a 75 from Dan Clayton of Ponteland.
Ray Sydenham of Prudhoe won the nett with a 73 just pipping Connor Graham of Westerhope.
Connor didn't even know he was playing until 30 minutes before the start... replacing an injured Danny Roy but stepping up to the mark and helping secure the team win for Westerhope with 23 out of a possible 24 points!

The League's thanks go to Westerhope for hosting the Challenge Cup, this year, and for all of their help making sure it ran smoothly and we were all well looked after.
